Bear Winter is a match-3 puzzle game that's completely different from other games in this genre. Not only is it much harder, but the theme, animations, visuals, and parts of the gameplay are also completely different.
In Bear Winter the player takes on the role of a hunter camping in an icy mountain who must try to hunt as many polar bears as he can, while at the same time trying to survive the harsh cold. And surviving won’t be easy, as players will soon find out after starting their first match.
Bear Winter lets you eliminate a row without having to have three identical elements in it, but you won’t get any benefits from it ... and if there's a bear in it, it will hurt you. In other words, you can get rid of a line with two bonfires and an acorn, but won’t get anything in return; you'll have to match three bonfires in order to get its benefits.
Due to this singular gameplay, players will have to try to keep a perfect balance between the pieces that are taken out and those which are not. Using acorns at just the right time could, for example, save your life.
Another way in which Bear Winter is radically different from other match-3 games is its graphics. The game is dark, with minimalist animations and few visual rewards: quite the opposite of all the other games in the genre.
Bear Winter is an original, fun and challenging puzzle game. Even though its visuals might seem a bit ugly at first, it's definitely one of those games that are worth sticking around for.
